There are so many great reasons to be on social media! I mean, where else can you find Aunt Mabel’s third cousin’s best friend!
Ok, seriously, social media news travels faster than any other and it’s a way of communication and away of life…like it, or not. But how do you stay productive when there are so many “shiny objects” competing for your time and attention?
Watch this…
Step 1: Know WHY you’re there.
Entertainment.
Find funny videos, catch up with friends, entertain others, be inspired, lighten your mood, brighten your day, catch up on the latest trends and info…you get the idea.
For a Purpose.
Learn how to do something, conduct business, communicate with friends and associates, spread the word, get ideas, find recipes.
Step 2: Make a List.
When you enter the world of social media distractions (or just wake up in the morning), make a list! Why are you there? When you end up lost in the world of funny cat videos, and crying babies, come back to YOUR world by glancing at your list. You’ll remember why you came in the first place.
IMPORTANT TIP…
Stay out of the newsfeed unless you’re there to be entertained and distracted. Think of the sites, pages, and people who will give you the info you’re looking for and go DIRECTLY to them. Ignore the notifications – I know that’s like asking Superman to ignore kryptonite – but you can get back to them in a minute. Stick to your list!
Step 3: Set a timer.
When you’re there just for fun or to be entertained, set a timer. Time has a way of disappearing and you’ll need an alert to bring you back from the other world…
My friend Ann is SO smart! She only allows herself to browse social media for entertainment purposes while she’s on the treadmill! There’s a great way to make time disappear while you’re exercising!!! She’s also coordinated because I’m sure I would break something if I did that…
Social media is fantastic! #obvi Just use it wisely so you can avoid the OVERWHELM and live the life you were meant to live!
