Give me an O! …O!
No? I shouldn’t cheer?
C’mon! I didn’t never even tried out to be a cheerleader. That’s why I wasn’t chosen!
My name is Amanda Bentow and I’m about to give you the one word that will help you S-T-O-P, stop procrastinating.
There’s nothing that delays progress like not starting. Procrastination is so threatening. Threatening. Threatening. And it’s so easy to get stuck there. I’m about to give you the one word that is going to help you stop procrastinating, but… before I give that to you, you must promise me that you’re gonna stay for this entire video, because you also need to know why that word is so important. So, pinky promise?
That magic word is NOW! And it’s no surprise that you just need to do it right now. Just do it!
But the reason it’s so hard to get going, the reason it’s so easy to procrastinate is because of our fear. We’re less afraid of the boogie man and monsters at bedtime than we are about… living a life without meaning, or doing the wrong thing, or failing, or looking stupid, or taking a risk, or being afraid of what other people will think, or stepping outside of our comfort zone. And do you want to know another really big fear? A fear of being vulnerable…of being our true selves and being open and honest with other people in our lives.
Sometimes we’re afraid of being too good so that we might actually (gasp!) be successful. But who are you to hold back what you’ve been given? Whether you know it or not, you’ve been given a lot of gifts and talents and God didn’t give those to you so that you could just bury them in the ground and never use them. He gave them to you to use. To put out into this big huge world. So that you can give to other people from the gifts – from the depths of your being, give to other people what you’ve been given.
And when you use your gifts in that way, he’ll pile on more. It might be more strengths, more gifts, more joy, more talent, more happiness, more peace, more money, more of the desires that are in your heart. I don’t know what He’s going to give to you but I do know that he rewards faithfulness.
But before any of that can flood in, you must stop procrastinating.
So say goodbye to procrastination with these two simple steps.
Step one is to write down your fears around that one thing – that one big thing that you’re procrastinating on. Which area do you feel stuck in? Where you just can’t quite move forward. Write down your fears. And you might have to ask “Why?” a couple of times to really dig deep and find what the true fear is behind the things that are holding you back. But just by being aware of those fears, it brings them out into the light and then we can do something about them.
Step two is to make a list of the teeny tiny baby step action items that you can do to begin moving forward in that area. I’m not talking about big projects. I’m not talking about big huge research articles. I’m not talking about major mountains to climb. I’m talking about teeny tiny action steps that you can do in just a few minutes to start moving in the direction of that thing that you are procrastinating on.
And once you’ve done those two steps, then all that’s left is to get started. So go take care of that now.
