Siri: Directions to where?
Me: I don’t know.
Siri: Don’t worry about it.
Me: Uhh, I kind of am!
My name is Amanda Bentow, and if you’re looking for direction in your life, then you’ll want to know about these 3 types of people.
Growing into your full potential requires you to take a look at where you’re currently at in order to know where you’re going. So let’s look at three types of people so you can decide which category you fall and what to do about it.
“I don’t know what I want to do.”
Some people feel totally and completely lost about what they want to do. Maybe it’s because they have so many things they want to do, or maybe it’s because they just haven’t found that one thing that really lights their fire yet. So if that’s you, here are a couple of things you can do.
Number one, pray. And if you’re not used to that, it can sometimes feel a little bit weird. But I do know that we have a loving, living, active God. And he does hear you. There’s no specific format that you need to use to pray. Just talk to God like you would talk to your best friend. If you’re not sure about God and how he’s involved with your life then just tell him that. He’ll help you.
Number two, take action. Try new things. Help people. Read stuff. Learn. Get out into the world and explore and try new things. You’re not going to find your purpose by sitting on your bum. So get out there and go live.
And as a bonus number three, go check out my video called “You Won’t Find Your Purpose In The Couch Cushions,” for more info about how you can find a purpose and value that really means something to you.
“I know what I want to do. I want to be over there. But I’m stuck in this dead end job.”
Some people know exactly what it is that they want to do, but they find themselves stuck in their circumstances for whatever reason.
If this is you and you’re not okay with it, then it’s time to make a change. Go watch my video called “One Word and Two Steps to Help You Stop Procrastinating.” Look, there are a lot of really legit fears and really big reasons why we sometimes feel stuck. And I’m not trying to diminish those because I know how that feels. But please do not ever say that you don’t have a choice. It may be that you don’t like the consequences associated with making the move that you want to make. It might mean that you choose to stay in your current place because you’re not willing to put in what it takes, or because you’re not willing to face the circumstances if you make the change that you’re thinking of. But you do have a choice.
Look, at one point my husband and I decided we both needed to transition careers. At the same time. My transition included wanting to be a stay-at-home mom. And his included a major pay cut. It was a big decision. It was difficult. It meant that life looked a little different for us for a while. Some people could have said “Well, I don’t have a choice. I can’t afford to make that move.” And you know what? Neither could we.
But God provides, He did, and it wasn’t easy. But it was the move we knew was right for each of us, and for our families. We got through it, we’ve survived, and you can too.
So please, just don’t ever say that you don’t have a choice.
Hold your faith up against your fears. Decide which is bigger, and move forward in that direction.
“I am so happy! I get to do what I love to do every day!”
Nothing leaves us feeling more fulfilled than when we are able to do the work that we were created to do. You were created on purpose for a purpose. And when all that aligns and we are doing all the things that we were created to do, then you are living into the person you were created to be. It doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t happen without risk, and it doesn’t happen without big, faith–filled steps. But it does happen.
So which person are you? Start writing down some steps that it will take to get you to start moving toward the life that you were intended for.
