I’m obsessed with helping people live their best life and you have to know that you need intentionality. Intentionality is one of my favorite words. It’s a little bit about planning, a lotta bit about showing up, being present, making decisions, and living on purpose.
If you’re not intentional, the really unimportant things have this crazy way of sliding into your life and crowding out all of the really important things. So you have to know about these eight sentences that you might be telling yourself if you’re not being intentional.
And by the way, you can read more about all of these eight sentences in John Maxwell’s book, it’s one of my favorites. It’s called the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
“I will just get better as I get older.”
Nope! No one gets better on accident. Everything that is left without care and attention falls apart over time. Think about your house, your car, your kids. If they don’t get time and attention, they start to diminish and fall apart. And you are the same way. You have to plan to grow.
“I don’t know how to get better.”
That might be true, but lots of people have done it before you and you can figure it out too. Plus, I have a lot more to share with you so keep watching my videos and subscribe (www.unleashedforlife.com) so you can get all of these videos to your inbox for free!
“Now is just not the right time.”
Not true. Why is it the wrong time? Because you’re too busy? Because you don’t have enough going on? Because you’re too old? Because you’re too young? Because you’re in school? Because you’ve been out of school for too long? Because you’re just a stay-at-home mom?
The reality is that if you don’t start you’ll never start. So change your mindset and make a commitment to get started on your personal development today.
“I’m afraid of making a mistake.”
Me too. I’m paranoid about making mistakes.
I always thought that I needed to be perfect in order to be accepted. But I learned that I can’t, I won’t, and Jesus loves me anyway. The Bible tells me so!
But there’s this thing called paralysis by perfection. I struggle with this daily. It stops people like us from moving forward. It keeps us frozen in our tracks. Just make a decision to get started. Put your mistakes out there for the whole wide world to see and just get started.
“I have to find the best way before I start.”
This one is really closely related to the last one, but here’s a little secret about life. There’s only a little piece of it that is a revealed at one time. So we need to make the best decisions that we can today with the information that we have available. And, so what if you learn something that you’re not supposed to? Sounds interesting doesn’t it?
“I don’t feel like doing it.”
No one feels like it. But if you’re going to be like the people were stuck waiting, then get really comfortable sitting in a stale pool of life that isn’t going anywhere. No one feels like working out, reading more, setting goals, eating better. But some people do it anyway. And you my dear… have free will. You can decide whether to go or to sit on your duff. It’s your call.
“Other people are better than I am.”
Yes, they are! Get more people like that in your life. You are the average of the five people you spend the most amount of time with. You can level-up and be more like them or you can level-down and you’ll just feel better because you’re better than everyone else. If you’re afraid of looking stupid or just getting it wrong, then only thing standing in your way is your pride and arrogance. I can stay that from personal experience.
So get out of your comfort zone, go find the people who are better than you, and LEARN FROM THEM!
“I really thought it would be easier than this.”
Success doesn’t just happen. It’s a choice, and it’s a daily choice. Look, if you’re climbing a mountain, you don’t get to the peak overnight. But one day, you decide to take the very first step. So begin your ascent. Today is the day!
